M14 - Rock Island Armoury Accurised (Top), M14 A1 (Middle), XM21 / M21 (Bottom)
The M14 was the Army's preferred sniper rifle having shown favourable results in the USARV field tests. The army developed the standard M14 using Rock Island's Armourers to create the finely tuned version. Later in the war it was developed further and was redesignated the XM21 in 1970, in 1972 it was redesignated again as the M21. The M14 was the weapon used by Chuck Mawhinney when he famously killed 19 NVA troops in the space of a seconds using only one magazine and acheiving 19 headshots.
The M14A1 is a rarity, and was often seen in the hands of LRRP's than Infantry snipers, the specification is the same as the M14 apart from the obvious pistol grip and fold down fore grip.
